So by now, most or all first and second year students should have been surveyed on their attitudes and interests in reading and books. The results are in and there were lots of interesting and innovative ideas and suggestions which will help promote the reading hub and a reading culture in our school.
More competitions was a resounding answer when asked how we could promote the site. These included an art competition to design a book cover for your favourite book, a reading competition across a year to see which classes could read the most as well as short story and general writing competitions during the year. Your voices have been heard so keep an eye out on the site and around the school for more info on upcoming competitions.
Some students admitted they hadn’t heard of the reading hub yet and suggested more posters and announcements with updates and events.
With regard to most popular books, 86 second year students selected science fiction/mysteries/ fantasy (a clear majority) whereas first year students prefered sports and adventure reads. In both year groups poetry was the least read. Although in second year two students favoured poetry so nice to know we might have some budding poets in the school!
In the book recommendations section we will include a list of all the books first and second years are currently reading.
A number of students suggested a Book Club which we think is a great idea! Check out the book club section for more information on the next book and meeting.
Thanks to all who answered the survey. Your input and ideas will help promote and grow the site.
